From modeling to rigging, I created the main character rig for 'Meowmentum', a Unity-made game. It took a lot of studying of both cat anatomy and anthropomorphic character design, and thanks to the incredible work of our concept artist, I was able to make a more believable two-legged, first-person rig.
I needed to adapt the IK Stretch so the stretch is performed through the translation of the joints rather than scaling, which is how I was used to doing it. It was important to add this attribute because, in a first-person camera view, the arms often need to be readjusted so they look right on screen—even if they look off in third-person. This ensures the arms can perform movements that make sense from the player's perspective.
Focus:
- First Person Rig
- IK Stretch
About the game: "Meowmentum is a first-person speedrunning platformer where you must finish speed trials as fast as possible using your powers of paw-kour! Run on walls, slide down ramps, and dash through magic orbs, proving yourself worthy against Catmages all around the world in the global leaderboards!"
